If you would like to submit a story to be published in the Mercedes Enterprise, please send your word document to info@creativebitsrgv.com. To help us process your submissions quickly, please include your full name, age, and hometown/school name. If you would like to be considered for our next anthology, please send a signed copy of the release form (at the bottom of this page) allowing us to publish your works. This form will waive the right for you to personally profit off of the submission, but your work will be included with many other writers in an anthology that we will distribute to different school districts, city libraries, and donors. Note that if you are under the age of 18, you must also include a signature from a parent or legal guardian in order for us to consider publishing your work. Your work will still be considered for publication through the Mercedes Enterprise newspaper if you do not want to be included in the anthology, which you can subscribe to here: https://www.themercedesenterprise.com/.
The current submission period is running from September 15 to October 15. We will accept submissions for the 2025 anthology and the newspaper creative writing series during this period. The theme is “Stories from the Borderlands: Against All Odds”. The word count requirement is 300-500 words of a fictional or non-fictional work. The non-fictional piece must show a personal or community story about overcoming challenges. The fictional piece must be a short story that explores the themes of resilience, identity, belonging, family, or community.
